Honda Pilot Generations
Honda Pilot 3 Generation (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021)
Honda made significant changes to the third-generation design, replacing sharp creases with soft curves that made the pilot look like a pumped-up Honda CR-V. The wheelbase and overall length increased, and two captain’s chairs became available instead of a bench seat in the middle row. New features included a V-6 engine with direct fuel injection, 6- and 9-speed automatic transmissions, stop-start technology, and safety features such as forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning.
Honda Pilot 2 Generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015)
Despite the newness of the styling, the upright, boxy shape of the 2009 model was reminiscent of the first-generation Pilot. Under the hood was a new V-6 engine that could shut off two or three cylinders during the trip to save gas. Seats for eight were again standard, but the interior was roomier, and the gearshift lever moved from the steering column to the dash’s center control panel.
Honda Pilot 1 Generation (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008)
Honda equipped the car with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine, standard four-wheel drive, and eight-person seating. The Pilot had a classic square SUV with eight inches of ground clearance. The fold-down middle and rear seats open up 90 cubic feet of cargo space, and with proper equipment, the Pilot could tow up to 4,500 pounds of cargo. Among the changes Honda made to the first-generation Pilot were standard three-row side curtain airbags and new front-wheel-drive versions for 2006, and standard stability control for 2007.
