GMC Terrain Generations
GMC Terrain 12 Generation (2021)
The GMC Terrain is a compact SUV that seats up to five people. It is powered by a standard 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. A 252-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission is available. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is also available.
GMC Terrain 11 Generation (2020)
For 2020, GMC Pro Safety is now standard and includes frontal collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams. Denali versions get front and rear Parktronic and a unique suspension setup. Meanwhile, the Black Edition has been renamed the Elevation Edition.
GMC Terrain 10 Generation (2019)
The 2019 new Black Edition for SLE and SLT trim levels includes gloss-black 19-inch aluminum wheels, a dark-finish grille, and black mirror caps, among other changes. An SLT Chrome Package includes 19-inch wheels with gray accents, a unique chrome grille, chrome mirror caps, and bright-finish side rails. A 360-degree camera system is available for Denali models, while adaptive cruise control and front pedestrian braking are now part of the Driver Alert Package II.
GMC Terrain 9 Generation (2018)
The redesigned 2018 GMC Terrain is a refined and comfortable compact SUV, and it gives shoppers plenty of choices, including an optional diesel engine and an upscale Denali trim.
GMC Terrain 8 Generation (2017)
The 2017 GMC Terrain adds the option of a Nightfall Edition appearance package.
GMC Terrain 7 Generation (2016)
For 2016, some trims have a new grille with stacked frames, and GMC also redesigned the textured grille of Denali trims.
GMC Terrain 6 Generation (2015)
The 2015 GMC Terrain is a bulkier alternative to the small SUVs it’s priced against, and that plays out in both good and bad ways.
GMC Terrain 5 Generation (2014)
The only significant change to the 2014 Terrain is the addition of standard 17-inch chrome wheels and optional 18-inch chrome wheels.
GMC Terrain 4 Generation (2013)
The 2013 GMC Terrain finally gets a proper V-6 engine option, but the new high-line Denali version doesn’t distinguish itself enough from the crossover’s other top trims.
GMC Terrain 3 Generation (2012)
The 2012 Terrain’s new standard features focus on technology, including a new standard audio system with SiriusXM satellite radio, a 7-inch touchscreen, and USB input. Bluetooth, cruise control, and OnStar remain standard.
GMC Terrain 2 Generation (2011)
Trim levels include the base SLE and up level SLT. Characteristic of a crossover, the Terrain has a four-wheel-independent suspension and car-based frame — a design that emphasizes ride comfort and fuel efficiency over off-road capabilities and towing.
GMC Terrain 1 Generation (2010)
Launched in 2010, the Terrain offers only a few upgrades for 2012, but what’s striking is that the crossover didn’t need much refinement. The Terrain comes relatively well-equipped in the base SLE package, which starts at $25,560.
