Ford Expedition 25 Generation (2021)
Ford added the XL trim for the 2021 model, it loses the third-row SUV seat, which is present in the four packages above (XLT, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum). But the starting price of the XL, at $50,720 including destination, is $3,785 lower than the XLT, which means the cheapest base price for the current-generation Expedition.
Ford Expedition 24 Generation (2020)
A new level of King Ranch interior trim, inspired by the famous Texas ranch, includes gray exterior accents, electric running boards, 22-inch aluminum wheels, King Ranch badges, and Del Rio leather. Meanwhile, the high-end Platinum trim gets new 22-inch wheels and a leather-trimmed dash hood.
Ford Expedition 23 Generation (2019)
The dual-zone automatic air conditioning is now tri-zone automatic air conditioning. There’s also a new Stealth Edition Package that adds an assortment of gloss black exterior accents as well as a Texas Edition Package.
Ford Expedition 22 Generation (2018)
Like the F-150, the Expedition’s body is now made of aluminum, but the weight difference in the 2018 Expedition is not as significant-just 119 pounds less in the base package than the similar 2017 Expedition. Ford added all sorts of equipment and soundproofing to offset some benefits of lightweight aluminum. The body looks sleek, with a new and thoroughly modern look that’s more in keeping with the truck’s modern style, with a high beltline, smaller windows, and a more compact style. It is fresh, attractive, and has a distinctly more aerodynamic look than the previous model.
Ford Expedition 21 Generation (2017)
At the heart of the new Expedition is the ubiquitous 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine. It’s an engine carried over from the last Expedition, so it’s no surprise that you won’t see an eight-cylinder engine under the hood. It puts out a healthy 375 horsepower in most trims and 400 horsepower in the top Platinum trim. New is the standard 10-speed automatic transmission, available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, as well as an electronic limited-slip differential.

Ford has added its proprietary new Sync 3 multimedia system as an available feature on the 2016 Expedition.
Ford Expedition 19 Generation (2015)
The 2015 changes are so minor as to be almost irrelevant – it looks almost the same as it has since the last complete redesign in 2007. There’s a new grille and lower bumper, as well as new headlights and taillights – LEDs. As before, the Expedition is available in two lengths: the Expedition and Expedition EL, but both versions seat eight people as standard.

There are no significant changes for 2011.
Ford Expedition 14 Generation (2010)
For 2010, the Expedition receives trailer-sway control standard, to help prevent trailer sway during towing.
Ford Expedition 13 Generation (2009)
For 2009, the Expedition receives a standard flex-fuel V-8 engine and can get Ford’s Sync voice-activation system.
Ford Expedition 12 Generation (2008)
The Expeditions are powered by a 5.4-liter eight-cylinder engine that develops 300 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. The six-speed automatic transmission replaces the previous four-speed automatic transmission, and Ford says the new transmission improves performance and fuel economy.
Ford Expedition 11 Generation (2007)
The 2007 Expedition’s most significant styling changes are in its front end, which has a new four-bar grille and more angular headlights. The grille is available in chrome, but my test car was finished in black, like the rest of the car, making the Expedition look pretty intimidating (as if its hulking size weren’t enough). There’s a new hood with a pronounced power dome, and standard running boards help make the climb into and out of the SUV easier.
Ford Expedition 10 Generation (2006)
All 2006 Expeditions use a 5.4-liter Triton V-8. A Reverse Sensing System and a Safety Canopy side curtain-type airbags system are now stand-alone options. A chrome-tip exhaust pipe is standard on the King Ranch edition.
Ford Expedition 9 Generation (2005)
Six trim levels are available: XLS, XLT, XLT Sport, Eddie Bauer, Limited, and King Ranch. The instrument cluster was redesigned for 2005, and raised roof rails replaced the previous roof rack. For 2005, the available AdvanceTrac electronic stability system gained Roll Stability Control. AdvanceTrac applies the brakes to individual wheels to help control the vehicle during a skid or spin.
Ford Expedition 8 Generation (2004)
Ford’s 5.4-liter eight-cylinder engine provides ample power in most conditions, though its performance is not overwhelming. Engine and transmission response is excellent.
Ford Expedition 7 Generation (2003)
In 2003, Ford hailed its redesigned full-size sport utility vehicle as to the “best on the road, best in the dirt, best in the snow.” The Expedition, which is closely related to the Lincoln Navigator, was second in size only to the Excursion in Ford’s SUV lineup. Now that Ford discontinued the Excursion, the Expedition ranks No. 1 in dimensions among Ford’s SUVs.
Ford Expedition 6 Generation (2002)
Ford’s second-largest full-size SUV is getting a little old compared to its competitors, and by early summer 2002, it should undergo a facelift, if not a complete redesign. But no changes will be made to it for the 2002 model year.
Ford Expedition 5 Generation (2001)
The Expedition is a four-door wagon with a rear liftgate that has a window that opens separately. Though the Expedition has a different grille and front-end trim, it shares major styling cues with the F-Series pickup.
Ford Expedition 4 Generation (2000)
In 2000, adjustable pedals are standard, not optional. Six-person seats are standard on the XLT model. New this year are extra captain’s chairs for the middle row, replacing the split seat. Dual front captain’s chairs are standard on the Eddie Bauer model and are optional on the XLT model.
