Xenon lamps do not use in fog lights: constantly changing the configuration of the discharge violates the strictly calculated geometry of the light beam, and the headlight does not perform its direct function. For fog lights it is better to use only LED bulbs.

Audi A8 Generations

Audi A8 25 Generation (2021)

New standard features include 22-way power-adjustable front seats and a 360-degree camera system with a virtual viewing mode. The S8 now comes with standard front heated armrests and 21-inch wheels with summer tires.

Audi A8 24 Generation (2020)

The A8 L features Audi’s new center console design, which omits many physical controls in favor of a pair of touch screens. There are a few touch buttons covered in black plastic underneath the lower screen, making them part of the screen, but the vast majority of the car’s functions are controlled using two screens. Even the air vents in the car have touch controls, allowing you to turn them on and off.

Audi A8 23 Generation (2019)

Last year’s model offered both a V-6 and V-8 engine option, but there’s only a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that’s new for the 2019 sedan, making 335 horsepower and 369 pounds-feet of torque. It also features a mild-hybrid system that both supports the engine and doubles as the main electrical system for the vehicle, powering the infotainment, luxury, and driver assistance features. An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard.

Audi A8 22 Generation (2018)

There are no significant changes.

Audi A8 21 Generation (2017)

The flagship Audi A8 in its current form is nearing completion, but it is still an impressive beast. Volkswagen’s elongated all-wheel-drive premium luxury sedan is due for an upgrade, but it is a serious competitor for buyers looking for spaciousness, smoothness, and comfort on their daily commute.

Audi A8 20 Generation (2016)

As of 2016, the only A8 available in the U.S. is the long-wheelbase A8 L. The short wheelbase carries on only in the sports-oriented S8. The Audi A8 features three possible powertrains: a 3.0-liter, turbocharged V-6; a 4.0-liter, turbocharged V-8, and a 6.3-liter, turbocharged W-12.

Audi A8 19 Generation (2015)

Audi’s already luxurious and stylish flagship sedan is getting a makeover for 2015 with a horsepower bump and updated front- and rear-end styling.

Audi A8 18 Generation (2014)

The 2014 A8 L TDI is only available in L versions with a larger wheelbase, a huge rear seat, standard all-wheel drive, and an EPA rating of 24/36/28 miles per gallon city/highway/together. Audi has exploded the popularity of LED running lights into the stratosphere; they are now available even on compact cars. But Audi still does it best, and the A8 is a shining example of how to get LEDs right. The horizontal LED strips make the front even wider, and the headlights themselves are LED.

Audi A8 17 Generation (2013)

The 4.2-liter V-8 has been dropped, and two new engines are available for the A8. There’s a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 and a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8. With the introduction of the new V-6, the A8’s starting price drops by about $6,500 compared with last year.

Audi A8 16 Generation (2012)

The A8 L W12 model becomes Audi’s new top-shelf model, featuring a 6.3-liter 12-cylinder engine that makes 500 horsepower. Instead of two banks of cylinders in a V configuration, this engine resembles two six-cylinders intertwined in a W-shaped arrangement. Standard features include 22-way adjustable seats, ventilation and massage functions for all seats, LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, and a rear entertainment system. Audi Connect with Google Earth, which integrates terrain and aerial images into the navigation system, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability is standard on all A8s.

Audi A8 15 Generation (2011)

The full-size A8 sedan has a V-8 or W-12 engine in standard and extended wheelbase versions. All-wheel drive is standard.

Audi A8 14 Generation (2010)

The W-12 engine and S8 high-performance model are no longer available.

Audi A8 13 Generation (2009)

Premium luxury package discontinued as its features become standard for 2009.

Audi A8 12 Generation (2008)

For 2008, Audi’s flagship A8 full-size luxury sedan receives updates to its steering and air suspension systems that are intended to enhance the car’s driving performance. There are also newly available safety features like lane assist and side assist, which alerts drivers when other vehicles are alongside them. Competitors include the BMW 7 Series, Lexus LS 460, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and the A8 is available in regular- and long-wheelbase form.

Audi A8 11 Generation (2007)

A new 4.2-liter V-8 in Audi’s flagship sedan makes 350 horsepower, up from 335 in the previous model. Little else has changed for 2007 in the A8, which was last redesigned for the 2005 model year. That redesign included an all-new aluminum body that promised 60 percent better structural rigidity than its predecessor. Audi’s third-generation space frame uses fewer components and weighs 300 pounds less.

Audi A8 10 Generation (2006)

The A8 L rides on a 121-inch wheelbase, which is 5.1 inches more than the base A8. The low front end features a short overhang, and the back has a high tail. A high beltline that rises toward the rear highlights the A8’s sporty appearance. The A8 L’s rear doors are 5 inches longer than those on the shorter-wheelbase version for easy entry and exit. For 2006, five-spoke alloy wheels hold standard 18-inch tires, but 19-inch tires are available in the Sport package.

Audi A8 9 Generation (2005)

A slightly lower-priced, shorter-wheelbase model was added for 2005; the long-wheelbase version is designated A8 L. A tire-pressure-monitoring system became standard for 2005.

Audi A8 8 Generation (2004)

For 2004, an all-new aluminum body was developed, promising 60 percent better structural rigidity than its predecessor. Audi’s third-generation space frame uses fewer components and weighs 300 pounds less.

Audi A8 7 Generation (2003)

The German automaker’s flagship car, which is still available in standard and extended-length variants (A8 L), has undergone only a few changes in the range of options in 2003. The Premium package for the A8 now includes heated front, and rear seats, a navigation system, high-intensity xenon headlights, a heated steering wheel, a tire pressure sensor, 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, and a power rear sun visor and manually operated rear side curtains.

Audi A8 6 Generation (2002)

Built largely of aluminum, the Audi flagship sedan gains a Symphony II stereo with an in-dash six-CD changer for 2002. The Porsche-developed Tiptronic five-speed automatic transmission adds a Sport mode that can hold each gear longer while accelerating. Manual gear selection can be achieved by using rocker switches on the steering wheel. An improved lateral-skid control system called Electronic Stabilization Program is installed and incorporates Brake Assist. New options include a tire-pressure monitor and a communication system called Audi Telematics by OnStar.

Audi A8 5 Generation (2001)

For the 2001 model year, it stretches the basic warranty coverage for all of its models. The warranty increases by one year to four years/50,000 miles, including scheduled maintenance. The Electronic Stabilization Program, a lateral skid-control system, is now standard instead of optional on the A8, which also gains standard steering-wheel controls for the audio system, telephone, and Tiptronic automatic transmission.

Audi A8 4 Generation (2000)

Audi stretches its aluminum flagship sedan and gives it side-impact head protection, a facelift, and a little more power this year. The lineup now consists of two all-wheel-drive models with a 4.2-liter V-8 engine and a starting price of $62,000. A front-drive version with a 3.7-liter V-8 has retired from active duty.
